Title: Could we take another look at TNT and Gas Barrels?
Post by: Gerick on December 27, 2018, 05:29:42 pm
They don't seem to work for me and I imagine that this was made intentional somehow? I'll make my case on why players need TNT to function like it does normally. I'll also make a case for how I think griefing could be prevented. The maker of our server bot could do something I cooked up to solve grief concerns that I've already cooked up.

--Justifications for needing it--

TNT is really important, with random generation caves being removed and replaced with POI mines, Nitrate is hard to come by. TNT can also be used to crack open locked safes, desk safes, wall safes, and locked hardened chests as are found at the end of quest POIs. TNT is also critical to clearing a pit in a reasonable amount of time prior to owning an auger.

With the no drop mining rule, it becomes time prohibitive to mine. The stamina changes make it even worse. Finding natural ore scars for Nitrate and coal is a massive pain in the ass until after level 60 with various talents focused on efficient mining. Or having an Auger. Given that the fun pimps dropped the costs of TNT, I think they're intending us to mine with it.

--Grief prevention--

There are three ways to do this. Both rely upon Madman asking the creator of the bot to come up with the solution but as far as I'm aware, he has a line of communication with this person so it is possible.

Option A.)

Any TNT placed any landclaim is instantly deleted. Nobody can place TNT inside an enemy, ally, or personal landclaim.

Option B.)

You can only place TNT inside your own landclaim area. At best you can only grief yourself or use TNT to clear a personal base if you are abandoning it.

Option C.)

Logging for whenever TNT is placed that includes the location and time. Also put the TNT behind a level lock in the XML. Someone would have to be playing the long con of leveling to something like level 40 just to be a dick. Further, they'd be caught by the log.

------------------------------------------

In conclusion, I'd really like TNT to be something other than a zombie killing device again. It's an amazing mining tool and an amazing lockpick for safes.

( I know TNT is now behind a level lock already :P but it's still not doing block damage! )

I don't play as often as I'd like, and I level slowly even when I do. I had no idea tnt did not work. I have been stockpiling the mats to make a big batch soon, I use it for mining as well.

I was told by Jaspymon that it wasn't even intentional. That TNT just stopped being good for mining and nothing was really done to fix it. After searching on the forums about it, I found out that the pimps more or less set up default TNT to not do block damage to limit griefing. Further, the explosive weapons talent had increased explosive damage and block damage at one point, and now it doesn't.

To return TNT to it's mining and POI safe opening glory, these are the XML lines to modify.

<property name="Explosion.BlockDamage" value="900"/>

<property name="Explosion.EntityDamage" value="320"/>

<property name="Explosion.ParticleIndex" value="1"/>

<property name="Explosion.RadiusBlocks" value="3"/>

<property name="Explosion.RadiusEntities" value="6"/>

Those are the current default values. Increase them to increase the effectiveness of the TNT.  Radius blocks will both increase the maximum range, and the start of the damage fallout, so that value may need to be increased first.

Feel free to make TNT. Whatever stopped it from working seems to have worked itself out. You'll damage the first layer of dirt / gravel it is near. It's not as good as it used to be, where it'd dig out 3 dirt in each direction, so make sure to embed it to maximize the digging in the direction you want to go in.
