I think KOS should be highly discouraged, but permitted in the context of decent gameplay (not griefing).

There are few occasions where it would be useful (stealing loot), and because the penalty it not that big of a deal I don't see any major problems with it...

I agree - I like the challenge or creating a base for myself to deal with Zombies and an occasional PVP when someone approached my territory lets say - What about the suggestion between each other that we dont just destroy locked chests to be spitefull to one another?

If they happen to be unlocked then sure by all means loot away if somone want to be that careless

KOS just for the sake of killing anyone when you see them will escelate quickly I believe and creat allot of animosity on a server that appears to be developing into quite a nice little haven for the player who wants to really enjoy all aspects of the game

Rather than chucking out nuclear bombs as soon a neighbor comes over the hill, I envision a more conventional nature to the combat possibilities.  Groups or individuals should be able to "declare war", so to speak (provided the other group or individual agrees), which might result in some delightful player skirmishes, while limiting headaches for players who just want to enjoy the game without looking over their shoulder every time they are out collecting plants.

I too don’t think we should just be shooting each other all the time but I do like to PVP sometimes. What if we set up a zone for PVP or once or twice a month had a full pvp weekends where all gloves were off for 48 hrs. , or how about we say all air drops are pvp centered meaning they are free game to kill on sight and fight for the boxes. Just some thoughts, I like PVP but don’t want to be constantly in fear of getting sniped.

Some good ideas Spider. I really like the idea of airdrops being PVP area's by default as ppl will be clamoring to get to those. I do plan on scheduling weekly and special events soon. Also, I would like to add some prefabs to the server down the road as well, such as underground sewers and the like. I always have open ears to suggestions to better the server and will always put big changes to a vote first.

Just of curiousity regarding GZ’s history and development was this vote, before the north-south split? When was the split implemented?

Yes, this was before. We had first flirted with using stop signs to mix PvE in an otherwise PvP server but it did not work well. I first started the discussion about a split-map setup back in February, 2015. I think we started it about a month or so later. Here was the original discussion:

Thanks for the background, Madman. Your post announcing the server split is interesting to read in comparison to current rules and gameplay. It's easy to miss simple things when you join the community a few years in and when the game is regularly being updated...even simple things like better understanding how the server got the name Ground Zero (cool, btw). I also think its thought-provoking to read some of the feedback posts, given the variety of opinions expressed. It makes me wonder how much time and energy you've given to maintaining such a collaborative, yet appropriately firm leadership style. I'm sure it's no small feat when players are passionate.

I think I might search for old posts that mention player facilitated capture the flag gameplay next. ;P

Thanks for the kind words. Yes, it's been a crazy trip but it's been fun. I wish I had more time to do things. I had a lot more time to play back then. I would like to bring back some form of capture the flag again soon, hopefully. I might have more time to devote to the server after the first of the year. Finger crossed! ;D
